EXCLUSIVE QUALITY WITH COMMERCIAL TOUGHNESS: THE EMBASSY RANGE

The Libbey Embassy Range is a long-established collection of beverage glassware designed to meet the rigorous demands of hospitality venues, bars, restaurants and catering services. Known for its classic silhouettes, broad selection of drink types and robust manufacturing, Embassy sits comfortably in commercial environments where reliability matters as much as presentation.

What Makes Embassy Stand Out

A defining feature of the Embassy range is its Safedgeยฎ rim and foot construction, which resists chipping and minimises replacements in busy service environments.

Made from 100% quality glass, each piece is dishwasher and glasswasher safe โ€” an important consideration when managing labour and turnaround in back-of-house operations.

The shape of each style is purposefully designed to reflect classic drinkware proportions, while still offering enough strength for frequent handling. Whether you are presenting a flute of sparkling wine or a branded beer, the Embassy Range blends form and function in a way that supports both service efficiency and guest experience.

Different Styles

Champagne Glasses โ€“ Tall and graceful stems with a clear bowl for MCCs and sparkling wines.
Beer Glasses โ€“ Stemmed beer glasses offering a refined vessel for ale, lager and craft styles.
Cognac and Spirit Glasses โ€“ Snifters with curved bowls that allow aroma to concentrate, ideal for brown spirits.
Hi-Ball & Tumbler Styles โ€“ Versatile tumblers suitable for long drinks and non-alcoholic service.

The versatility of the Embassy Range means you can build a comprehensive drinkware programme that aligns with your menu and service style, without sacrificing durability. This breadth of styles supports a wide beverage list without the need for multiple brands of glassware.

Choosing Embassy for Your Venue

Selecting glassware isnโ€™t simply about aesthetics; itโ€™s about performance under pressure. The Embassy Range works well in environments where practicality and appearance must work hand in hand.

Key considerations for hospitality buyers include:

  • Service type โ€“ from fine dining to casual bar environments
  • Beverage focus โ€“ wine, cocktails, beer or spirits
  • Cleaning process โ€“ dishwasher compatibility
  • Breakage management and cost

The Libbey Embassy Range provides hospitality professionals with a dependable choice for glassware needs. Its combination of classic design, commercial resilience and broad style selection makes it suitable for a wide spectrum of venues. With durability built into its core and adaptability across drink types, Embassy supports both operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.

SAME LOOK, BETTER QUALITY: KNOW YOUR CUTLERY

knife and fork used for dinner

Have you ever stopped to consider what truly makes cutlery exceptional? As a restaurant or hotel owner, you may also have asked yourself whether investing in higher-quality cutlery truly makes a difference.

The Guest Experience Is in the Details

Cutlery is one of the few elements your guests physically interact with throughout their dining experience. The weight, balance, finish, and durability all influence how a meal is perceived.

Well-crafted cutlery enhances presentation, improves comfort, and reinforces confidence in your establishment. It may seem subtle, but it plays a powerful role in shaping the overall dining atmosphere.

The Importance of Weight and Balance

Rather than comparing brands, it is more valuable to focus on the specifications and craftsmanship that define quality cutlery.

One of the most noticeable characteristics of FuchsThaler cutlery is its weight and balance. It is slightly heavier than many standard lightweight ranges. This added weight:

  • Enhances durability
  • Reduces the likelihood of bending
  • Improves balance in the hand
  • Contributes to a longer lifespan

A well-balanced utensil feels controlled and comfortable, whether used in a high-volume restaurant, a hotel dining room, or at home.

Built for Strength and Durability

Strength is essential in demanding hospitality environments.

Manufactured according to German quality standards, FuchsThaler cutlery is designed to maintain its shape and structural integrity even with frequent washing and continuous service cycles.

For hospitality businesses, this translates into:

  • Greater longevity
  • Reduced replacement frequency
  • Consistent presentation over time

When service is constant, reliability is non-negotiable.

Size and Proportion Matter

The dimensions of cutlery significantly impact the dining experience.

FuchsThaler pieces are slightly more generous in length and width than standard compact designs. This subtle difference creates:

  • A more substantial dining feel
  • Improved comfort and grip
  • Enhanced visual presence on the table

In both busy restaurants and relaxed home dining settings, these proportions elevate the experience without feeling oversized or impractical.

Hospitality-Grade Quality, Thoughtfully Designed

Combining durable stainless steel construction with refined design, FuchsThaler delivers hospitality-grade quality at a practical price point.

It is created to meet the needs of:

  • Restaurants
  • Hotels
  • Catering companies
  • Households that value reliability and performance

The focus is not on comparison, but on craftsmanship and thoughtful engineering.

Designed for High-Volume Service

In a world where service is fast and expectations are high, cutlery must endure repeated handling, washing, and storage without compromising its appearance or functionality.

FuchsThaler cutlery is crafted to support:

  • High-volume restaurant service
  • Hotel dining operations
  • Catering and banqueting environments
  • Everyday home use

It is not about being better than others. It is about offering a carefully designed product that prioritises durability, comfort, and timeless style.

Traditional

The Traditional collection anchors your setting with its established, familiar silhouette, speaking to classical dining formality.

Capri

Introducing the lightweight yet robust Capri range, defined by its clean, flowing lines and exceptional ergonomic design. Crafted for comfortable handling and longevity, this collection withstands daily operational demands without compromising its refined presentation.

Eloff

The Eloff cutlery range brings hospitality-grade cutlery to your tabletop. The complete set is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel.

Munich

Munich represents a commitment to enduring quality and precise engineering, featuring a classic yet defined silhouette. The substantial gauge and mirror finish guarantee sustained performance and a powerful presence on the tabletop.

DARE TO DREAM: WHERE STORYTELLING MEETS THE TABLE

Dining in style near Krugersdorp in Gauteng.

In hospitality, the most memorable dining experiences are those that extend beyond the plate โ€” where setting, narrative, and detail come together to create something guests carry with them long after the meal ends.

A recent example of this philosophy in action is Dare2Dream, the immersive fine-dining concept located at Forum Homini Boutique Hotel in the Cradle of Humankind, near Krugersdorp in Gauteng.

A long-standing Core client, the Forum Homini team has consistently invested in evolving their guest offering โ€” not only front of house, but operationally and in the kitchen environment that supports it. Over the years, Core Catering Supplies has supported the property across multiple areas, supplying a broad range of solutions including kitchen equipment, back-of-house tools and consumables, as well as glassware, barware, and tabletop presentation pieces throughout the boutique hotel.

Their newest concept invites guests into a world of imagination and sensory exploration. Set within a dome environment, Dare2Dream presents an eleven-course tasting journey shaped by storytelling โ€” drawing inspiration from Karina Maraisโ€™s memoir and accompanied by original music and narrative elements. Each course unfolds as part of a larger experience engaging sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch, paired with thoughtfully selected MCC and fine wines.

Rather than traditional fine-dining formality, the concept embraces what many describe as โ€œfun diningโ€ โ€” refined, creative, and immersive โ€” where theatre and culinary craft intersect. It reflects a growing global shift toward experiential hospitality, where operators seek to create emotional connection alongside technical excellence.

As Dare2Dream came to life, Core worked alongside the team to ensure presentation and service elements aligned with the vision โ€” from carefully selected glassware and tabletop solutions through to the development of bespoke designed plates created specifically for the venue and now featured as part of the visual storytelling within the experience.

These details matter. The right glass profile influences aroma and perception. The right tabletop elements shape the visual narrative. And custom presentation pieces allow chefs to extend creativity beyond cuisine into full sensory engagement โ€” all supported by a well-equipped kitchen environment that enables consistency and execution behind the scenes.

It is always rewarding to see clients push boundaries and invest in innovation within the South African hospitality landscape. Concepts such as Dare2Dream reinforce how experiential dining continues to evolve โ€” and how thoughtful collaboration between operator, designer, and supplier can help bring ambitious ideas into tangible form.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Forum Homini team and to seeing where imagination takes them next.

RAMADAN & HOSPITALITY

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches in 2026, the hospitality industry once again has an important opportunity to serve guests observing this sacred time with care, awareness, and excellence. Ramadan remains a period of reflection, fasting, prayer, and community โ€” and for hospitality professionals, it calls for thoughtful planning and meaningful service delivery.

Because Ramadan follows the lunar-based Hijri calendar, its exact start date is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon. As reported by publications such as The New York Times, different countries may announce the beginning of Ramadan on slightly different days, depending on regional moon sightings and religious authorities. These centuries-old traditions continue to shape how Muslim communities around the world commence this spiritually significant month.

Prioritising Suhoor and Iftar Experiences

Ramadan centres around two key meals:

  • Suhoor โ€“ the pre-dawn meal
  • Iftar โ€“ the evening meal to break the fast at sunset

In 2026, guests will continue seeking well-organised, timely, and meaningful dining experiences around these moments.

Hospitality venues can stand out by:

  • Extending operating hours to accommodate early morning and sunset service
  • Offering curated Suhoor and Iftar menus that blend traditional favourites with contemporary options
  • Creating communal dining environments that encourage connection and shared experience
  • Ensuring efficient service at peak Iftar times

Cultural Awareness and Religious Sensitivity

Cultural intelligence remains a defining factor in hospitality excellence.

Simple but impactful actions include:

  • Being mindful of guests who are fasting during daylight hours
  • Providing designated, quiet prayer spaces where possible
  • Lowering or switching off music and television during Iftar to allow guests a peaceful moment to break their fast

Health-Conscious and Sustainable Menu Options

In 2026, health awareness and sustainability continue to shape global dining trends, particularly across the Middle East and Muslim-majority markets.

Ramadan menus can incorporate:

  • Nutrient-dense dishes that replenish energy after fasting
  • Plant-forward and balanced meal options
  • Locally sourced ingredients
  • Reduced food waste strategies, especially during buffet-style Iftar service

Sustainable practices not only meet modern consumer expectations but also demonstrate long-term responsibility.

Community Engagement and Social Responsibility

Ramadan is a time rooted in generosity and compassion. Hospitality businesses can strengthen their community presence by:

  • Hosting charitable Iftar events
  • Partnering with local organisations to provide meals for those in need
  • Supporting community outreach initiatives
  • Creating shared dining events that bring diverse groups together

Inclusive and Diverse Offerings

Ramadan gatherings often involve extended families and multi-generational groups. Establishments that provide:

  • Comfortable, family-oriented seating arrangements
  • Consideration for dietary requirements
  • Prayer-friendly facilities
  • Warm, welcoming service will be well positioned to encourage repeat visits throughout the month.

Ramadan 2026 presents hospitality professionals with an opportunity to combine operational excellence with cultural understanding. By prioritising personalised service, respectful practices, sustainable menus, and meaningful community engagement, your establishment can create memorable experiences that resonate long after the holy month concludes.

Thoughtful preparation is not simply good practice, it is a strategic advantage.

PINSA VS PIZZA: ROME’S BEST-KEPT SECRET COMES TO SOUTH AFRICA

Pizza has long been a favourite in South Africa, but now, a bold new player is entering the scene, Pinsa, the ancient Roman flatbread thatโ€™s lighter, crispier, and more digestible than traditional pizza. Thanks to a delicious new partnership between Wilderer and Core Catering Supplies, South Africans can now experience the authentic taste of Pinsa in multiple ways: whether it’s hot and fresh from the oven, assembled at home with curated toppings, or ready-to-use bases for hospitality professionals.

So what exactly is Pinsa? Unlike pizza dough, Pinsa is made with a carefully balanced blend of wheat, rice, and soy flour, and is slow-fermented for up to 72 hours. This creates a base thatโ€™s lower in gluten, easier to digest, and beautifully crispy on the outside with an airy softness inside. With its signature oval shape and rustic finish, Pinsa isnโ€™t just a meal, itโ€™s a culinary statement.

The versatility of Pinsa is what makes it a game-changer for South Africa’s food scene. Restaurants, hotels, caterers, and delis can now serve something truly unique, thanks to the availability of ready-made Pinsa bases that offer consistency, speed, and premium quality. Whether you’re crafting gourmet dishes in a fine dining kitchen or looking to upgrade your casual menu with a signature twist, Pinsa gives your offering a modern edge rooted in tradition.

But it doesnโ€™t stop there. Wilderer and Core Catering also launched freshly made Pinsa to eat on-site or take away, perfect for foodies on the move who want to try something new.  For those who love to get hands-on in the kitchen, thereโ€™s the โ€˜Make It at Homeโ€™ Pinsa kit complete with a parbaked base and portioned gourmet toppings. Itโ€™s the ideal way to bring a Roman dining experience into your own home.

This initiative is more than a trend, itโ€™s a movement. And South Africa is ready. With Wildererโ€™s innovation in food and drink and Core Cateringโ€™s reach in the hospitality industry, this collaboration is set to put Pinsa on menus and dinner tables across the country.

Whether you’re a chef, a hotelier, a deli owner, or just a curious food lover Pinsa is here. Itโ€™s light, itโ€™s elegant, itโ€™s Roman and itโ€™s ready to rise.

Want to stock Pinsa in your business, enjoy one fresh, or build your own at home? Get in touch with Core Catering Supplies or visit Wilderer to be part of the Pinsa revolution.

HOSTEX TURNS 40: A MILESTONE YEAR FOR THE INDUSTRY AND FOR CORE

Hostex Exhibition Photo

In March 2026, HOSTEX turns 40.

Four decades of ideas exchanged, partnerships formed, trends launched, careers shaped, and an industry that has grown, adapted, regrouped, and re-imagined itself many times over. For Core Catering Supplies, HOSTEX has been a part of that journey for more than 20 years. Not consecutively, not without pause, and certainly not without change, but always with intent.

This year feels different.

HOSTEX 2026 is not only a milestone for the show itself; it marks a defining moment for Core. Weโ€™re returning with our largest stand ever, one of the biggest on the exhibition floor, and the most ambitious presence in Coreโ€™s HOSTEX history.

A Show That Grew With the Industry

What began in 1986 as Caterex – a single hall at NASREC created to bring the readers of Professional Caterer magazine together, quickly became something much bigger. Rebranded as HOSTEX, the show evolved into South Africaโ€™s most trusted hospitality trade platform, shaped by chefs, suppliers, educators, technologists, and operators who understood the value of meeting face-to-face.

Over the years, HOSTEX has mirrored the industry it serves:
hands-on, energetic, occasionally experimental, and always rooted in connection.

From the establishment of the SA Chefs Pavilion in the early 1990s to live competitions, product launches, and the evolution into focused industry zones, HOSTEX has consistently been about more than selling, itโ€™s about learning, sharing, andopening doors.

Core at HOSTEX: A Longstanding Relationship

Core Catering Supplies has grown alongside this platform. Over the past two decades, HOSTEX has been where weโ€™ve showcased new exclusive brands, introduced global suppliers to the local market, connected with chefs and operators, and even met future Core Franchise owners, all while listening closely to the evolving needs of the hospitality industry.

Weโ€™ve seen the industry through boom cycles, consolidation, reinvention, and the pause imposed by COVID – a reminder that nothing in hospitality should be taken for granted. Like HOSTEX itself, Core adapted. We leaned into digital, strengthened our national footprint, expanded our franchise network, and stayed close to the trade when it mattered most.

Returning to HOSTEX now, at 40, feels earned.

2026: Opening Doors, Setting the Bar

The 2026 theme, โ€œOpening Doors,โ€ couldnโ€™t be more fitting.

For HOSTEX, it honours four decades of bringing people together.
For Core, it reflects where we are as a business – opening doors to new regions, new partnerships, new ways of supporting the industry, and new conversations around quality, durability, sustainability, and service.

Our 2026 stand will be the biggest weโ€™ve ever built, not for spectacle alone, but to create space:
space to explore product properly, to talk, to demonstrate, to connect. It will bring together our exclusive brands, preferred suppliers, and Core team members from across the country, a reflection of how we actually work, day in and day out.

Why HOSTEX Still Matters

In an era of online catalogues, virtual meetings, and digital launches, HOSTEX remains irreplaceable. Itโ€™s where ideas are tested in real time, where operators compare notes, where young talent sees whatโ€™s possible, and where long-standing relationships are reinforced face-to-face.

Thatโ€™s why it has lasted 40 years.
And thatโ€™s why Core continues to show up.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare for March 2026, we do so with a sense of responsibility – to the industry, to our partners, and to the next generation coming through. HOSTEX has always been about more than a moment; itโ€™s about momentum.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of its past, present, and future.
And we look forward to opening doors together.

HOSTEX | 8โ€“10 March 2026 | Sandton Convention Centre
Come see what it means to Enjoy the Difference – at scale.

DESLEEN CAROLUS – A CORE SUCCESS STORY, PROVING THAT HARD WORK PAYS OFF

Where It All Began

Desleen, known to many as Des or Dessy, began her sales journey at Core Catering Supplies in a telesales role with no prior experience in the field. Coming from many years in the restaurant industry, she entered a completely new environment that required her to adjust quickly. Moving into an office setting, learning product knowledge on her own, and competing in a highly competitive market were some of the biggest challenges she faced early on.

Despite this, Des remained focused. She pushed herself to learn fast, often relying on her own initiative and by watching others around her. Competition was tough, but perseverance and consistency became the foundation of how she approached her role. Following through and staying committed, even when things were difficult, helped her find her footing.

Her work ethic has always stood out. Des is often one of the first in the office and one of the last to leave, long after the doors have closed. For her, the extra effort is not about hours worked, but about ensuring her clients are taken care of and that nothing is left undone.

Growing Through Consistency and Service

As her product knowledge grew, so did her confidence. Being able to offer relevant knowledge allowed her to add real value to her clients. This marked a turning point in her journey, where things began to click. Des learned that success comes from perseverance, consistency, and always following through.

Over time, she continued to grow by constantly improving her knowledge, providing timeous feedback and quotes, ensuring deliveries ran smoothly, and sourcing the right products for her clients. Building relationships became central to her approach, with trust and service always coming first.

When asked about her success, Des does not measure it by sales figures or revenue. Instead, she measures it by how happy her clients are. Knowing that her clients are satisfied with both the service and the products they receive is, to her, the greatest achievement.

Impact as a Mentor

Beyond her success with clients, Des has made a meaningful impact by mentoring and inspiring those around her.

From someone she mentors: What stands out most to me is her determination and the genuine love she has for every one of her clients. She has given 19 years of loyalty to this company and has truly poured her heart and soul into her work. We look up to her ambition every day and pray that one day I can be even half the representative she is. Iโ€™m incredibly grateful to have her not only as a mentor, but as someone I truly admire.

Where She Is Today

Today, Des is a senior road representative and one of the most successful reps in the company. Her role is more challenging, involving increased driving and more face to face interaction with clients. Seeing clients in their own environments allows her to better understand their needs and provide more meaningful solutions.

Des is quick to acknowledge that she has not achieved this success alone. She strongly believes in the importance of having a supportive team around her, including operations and a strong backup sales team that supports and encourages her. That support plays a key role in allowing her to deliver consistent service.

She also credits Rolf as a key mentor in her journey. Through his guidance, she learned a great deal about dealing with clients and building strong working relationships. Alongside this, Des values learning by observing others and drawing from their experience. Her faith has also played a significant role in helping her stay grounded and motivated throughout her journey.

A Message from the Core Team

Watching Des grow has been incredibly rewarding for the Core team. Her journey is a true reflection of what hard work, perseverance, and consistency can achieve. She shows up every day with dedication, heart, and a genuine commitment to service.

We are proud to have Des as part of the Core family and proud of the success she has earned. Her growth did not happen overnight, but through persistence and effort. Seeing that hard work finally pay off is something we celebrate, and we look forward to supporting her continued success.

CUTLERY WITH CHARACTER: HEPP’s PVD COATED COLLECTION

HEPPโ€™s PVD-Coated Collections

At Core Catering Supplies, weโ€™ve always championed products that blend functionality with refined design, and HEPPโ€™s PVDโ€‘coated cutlery is a perfect example of this ethos in action. Whether youโ€™re outfitting a boutique hotel restaurant or a highโ€‘turnover dining room, the right finish can elevate the guest experience, and HEPPโ€™s PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coatings are crafted specifically to do just that.

What Makes PVD Special?

PVD coating is a cuttingโ€‘edge finishing technique that bonds a highly durable, visually expressive surface to cutlery and tabletop items. Unlike traditional plating or painting, PVD creates a resistant surface layer with excellent scratch, wear, and corrosion resistance – ideal for environments where items are in daily use and machine-washed.

HEPP currently offers five elegant PVD colour variants:

pvd-gold

Gold

Pale Gold

Copper

Gun Metal

Black

Each colour brings its own character to the table, from striking and premium to subtle and contemporary.

Which HEPP Ranges Come in PVD Finishes?

While HEPP produces a broad portfolio of classic and modern cutlery collections, several key ranges are available with PVD finishes, either from stock or on order with standard lead times:

CARLTON

With soft, rounded contours and a timeless presence, the CARLTON range features options like PVD Gold and PVD Gun Metal Brushed, allowing you to match sophistication with personality in fineโ€‘dining setups.

PROFILE

Known for its minimalist and modern design language, PROFILE is available in PVD Copper, PVD Black, and PVD Gold, making it a versatile choice for both classic and contemporary table concepts.

MEDAN

A refined range with gently rounded shapes, MEDAN has also been featured with PVD Copper Brushed and PVD Gun Metal Stonewashed finishes for a more textured, expressive look.

CHIPPENDALE

Although traditionally known for classic silverโ€‘plated looks, HEPPโ€™s PVD offerings in this range include PVD Gold and PVD Black Stonewashed options, ideal for creating contrast or dramatic table aesthetics.

ECCO

A versatile and durable collection, ECCO is now available in Stonewashed and Black PVD finishes. Its clean lines and reliable form make it ideal for highโ€‘turnover hospitality environments seeking a modern yet classic presentation.

TRILOGIE

Known for its distinctive threeโ€‘sided handle profile and contemporary appeal, TRILOGIE is now offered with PVD Gun Metal and PVD Copper finishes – providing a bold option for styleโ€‘driven table settings.

Note: Availability varies by model and stock status; Speak to your local Core branch to confirm current stock and delivery timelines for specific pieces and finishes.

Mix & Match: Cross Finishes and Custom Options

In addition to standalone PVD colours, HEPP also allows cross finishes, combining PVD coating with surface treatments like stonewashing, brushing, or glass bead blasting, which can further enhance texture and depth. This gives hoteliers and restaurateurs even more creative freedom when designing distinctive table settings.

What This Means For You

For hospitality professionals, PVD coating isnโ€™t just about aesthetics; itโ€™s about durability, design flexibility, and guest experience. HEPPโ€™s expanded PVD programme extends these benefits across popular collections, so you can confidently specify items that look exceptional and stand up to daily use.
